Music
As a college student and post-grad I found a great way to releive tension and show creativity in a no-holds-barred environment. This was the creation and performance of original music. A couple of friends and I started our first rock band named “Corkscrew”. We played a number of parties and events around Southern California. Our biggest claim to fame was performing at the Hard Rock Cafe in Newport Beach.
The band evolved and members changed as most bands do, and eventually we became known as “Saturn’s Trick”, which was taken from Chaucer’s Cantebury Tales, specifically The Knight’s Tale;
Think! We are prisoners and shall always be.
Fortune has given us this adversity,
Some wicked planetary dispensation,
Some Saturn’s Trick or evil constellation
Has given us this, and Heaven, though we had sworn
The contrary, so stood when we were born.
We must endure it, that’s the long and short.
In retrospect, this was the perfect name for our band, as the music seemed to develop into a more experimental style, we were constantly switching members, spent 2 years writing and rehearsing, and never actually got out of the “garage” before finally splitting up.
Here are a few key track from some of Corkscrew’s recordings. I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as we enjoyed writing and performing them.
